SOAR is an accredited ADHD Outdoor Adventure Summer Camp, Boarding School, and GAP Year Program. We serve youth and young adults with ADHD and other Learning Disabilities in North Carolina, Wyoming, Florida, California and internationally! Our outdoor adventure-based programs provide academic instruction, experiential education, and life skills development for youth and young adults ages 8-25. Created in 1977 by an adult with learning disabilities, SOAR provides a fun and successful outdoor experience so that participants may gain greater awareness of their own strengths and improve self-esteem and confidence. SOAR is devoted to helping youth and families through our continuum of services, educational webinars, and dedicated Alumni Support Services.
By orienting on our participant’s success, our programs provide challenges that build self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-reliance. Each participant is challenged by choice in a variety of adventure activities (backpacking, rock climbing, canoeing, among others), and pushed beyond their comfort zone with support and encouragement. These experiences empower the participant to make healthy choices, learn more about themselves, overcome challenges, and relate lessons learned from these experiences to other aspects of their lives.
SOAR Summer Camp places great effort on imparting the 6 Life Success Attributes (Self- Awareness, Proactivity and Decision-Making Skills, Perseverance, Goal setting, Appropriate use of Support Systems and Emotional Coping Strategies) to all of its campers. At the end of each program, campers will have an evaluation that combines staff and self-evaluations in each life success area and parents will be given specific strategies to help their child continue to progress. It’s important to remember growth in these areas can take time and commitment both on the part of the child and parent.
We are enrolling now for Summer 2024. We have overnight camp courses ranging in length and activities. We offer camps in North Carolina, Wyoming, California, and Florida.
