Description
Join the Art & History Museums of Maitland and the Maitland Public Library for a very special Homeschool Day designed for students in grades K–8!
Our adventure begins at the Maitland Public Library with a guided tour led by Ms. Christina Burgos, Youth Services Librarian. Students will learn how to navigate the library catalog and explore the many resources available to support their learning journey. A fun activity will help them put their new skills to use in a hands-on way!
Did you know? The library building was designed by Charles Waterhouse, the son of William Waterhouse—the builder of the historic residence you’ll visit later in the day!
After a short break at Lake Lily Park, the journey continues with the Education Team at the Waterhouse Residence and Carpentry Shop Museums. Step back in time and discover the Victorian era of the Waterhouse Family! Learn about architecture in the 1880's and explore the tools Mr. Waterhouse used to build the Waterhouse Residence in our Carpentry Shop Museum. Students will go on an architecture scavenger outside the Residence and then become an architect by using different drawing tools and sketching their own Victorian era home. We’ll finish our day by making a silhouette in a frame, a popular way to capture the image of a person or animal during the Victorian period!
